What we collect, why, and how to make it stop. The short version: very little, and you’re always in control.

Surprise My Wife exists to help you be more thoughtful — not to harvest your data. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, and how to make it stop.
What we collect
For most visitors: nothing that identifies you. The site works without an account, and pressing the button to reveal an idea requires no personal information.
If you subscribe by email, we collect only what you give us:
- Your email address (required, so we can send what you asked for).
- Optionally: your first name, your partner’s first name, and important dates (an anniversary, a birthday) — only if you choose to add them for reminders.
- Which message types you opted into (weekly ideas, date reminders, partner offers).
How we use it
- To send you the emails you signed up for, and nothing else.
- To send a reminder a week before a date you gave us, if you opted into reminders.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not build a profile of you to target you elsewhere.
Analytics
We use privacy-respecting, cookie-free analytics (Vercel Analytics) to count page views and button presses in aggregate. It does not track you across sites and does not store personal identifiers. Many visitors are invisible to it because their browsers block analytics — and that’s fine.
Affiliate links
When you click through to buy a gift, we use an affiliate tag so the retailer pays us a small commission at no cost to you. The retailer (e.g. Amazon) sets its own cookies under its own policy once you land there — that’s between you and them.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from any email with one click — the link is in every message.
- Ask us to delete everything we hold about you (see Your Data).
- Use the site entirely anonymously by simply not subscribing.
Who processes your data
Email is handled by Loops. Hosting and analytics by Vercel. Content by Sanity. We keep this list short on purpose — fewer processors, less surface area, less risk. See Your Data for the detail on international transfers and your GDPR rights.
